DEWA hosts Ramadan activities at Reading is Positive Energy exhibition
Dubai, UAE, June 19th 2016 – Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organised a range of activities during the Holy Month of Ramadan at the Reading is Positive Energy exhibition. These include lectures, seminars, poetry readings, awareness sessions, and other activities for anyone.
DEWA launched the year-long exhibition last month in collaboration with Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, at Zabeel Park. The move is part of DEWA’s efforts to support the directives of the wise leadership that 2016 is the Year of Reading.

“As a socially-responsible government organisation, DEWA contributes to building a knowledge-based society that supports the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to spread a culture of reading, while establishing the UAE as a capital of content, culture and knowledge, promote Arabic as a language, and encourage reading. This is achieved by making books available to ensure a positive change in society, and raising a cultured generation of readers who contribute to enhancing the country’s cultural development,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“We hope the Reading is Positive Energy exhibition will be an important cultural pillar for building knowledge in our beloved country through various events and activities that are suitable for everyone. The Exhibition promotes books as best friends, and as valuable sources of knowledge for all. It helps spread a culture of reading and encourages members of society to explore a wealth of information in books in an encouraging environment that motivates reading across its different corners. During Ramadan, we organise a host of awareness activities to ensure a positive behavioural change in society, while promoting Emirati writers. DEWA cooperates with different government and private organisations to establish a knowledge environment that supports our aspirations in raising a well-educated generation, and promote a passion for culture, reading, and knowledge in society,” added Al Tayer.

During the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Reading is Positive Energy exhibition is open from 9pm until midnight. It features lectures, literature sessions, poetry readings, and reading sessions for kids. Activities and lectures organised at the Reading is Positive Energy exhibition cover various domains. The knowledge domain includes the Effect of Science on Society, Reading is Happiness, Books Make Creative People, World of Children’s Books, Happiness in the Workplace, Common Errors in Books, and Dealing with the Disabled. The educational and behavioural domain’s lectures and sessions are on the Effect of Stories in directing Children’s Behaviour, Developing Creativity through Reading, Discovering Talented Children, Relationship between Reading and Intelligence, and Knowledge and Tranquillity. The training domain has lectures on Steps to Writing and Authoring, the Art of Novel Writing, Learn How to Write an Article, How to Start my First Book, How to Publish my Books, Writing for Children, and Where Does a Poem Start?
The exhibition is housed in a 1,000 square metre air-conditioned tent at Zabeel Park near Gate 2. These include a permanent book exhibition that allocates a full month for Emirati publishers and will then host Arab and global publishers. It will also organise an exhibition for used and rare books. There is also a forum for organisations and schools to take part in the workshops and training that that enhance reading in society. The Reading is Positive Energy Forum at the exhibition provides an open space for organisations and schools to take part in activities that raise the level of reading and enhance reading in society. It also features cultural activities including training workshops and knowledge competitions. The Children’s Knowledge World corner features story-telling sessions that involve children and mothers to tell stories and learn from them. The Reading Sensory Wall helps students to write their own stories using their sight, touch, and hearing. The Smart Reading corner provides the latest smart technologies and devices that help motivate people to read. Schools are encouraged to participate in the Arab Reading Challenge where participating students will be asked to read stories, summarise, analyse, and then discuss them. There are also children’s games that help improve their focus and analytical skills. The Emirati Majlis includes a seating area to receive guests, and host authors and writers for book signings. Visitors can enjoy hot and cold drinks and cakes at the Coffee and a Book corner, while reading.
